Prof. Prabal Banerjee was born in Burdwan, India, on November 12, 1975. He earned his B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from The University of Burdwan in 1996, followed by an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the same university in 1998. In 2005, he obtained his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Ganesh Pandey at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) Pune, India. Following his doctoral studies, Prof. Banerjee pursued postdoctoral research at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in the research group of Prof. Hans-Joachim Gais (2005–2007). He subsequently joined the research group of Prof. Philip L. Fuchs at Purdue University, USA, where he continued his postdoctoral work from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, Prof. Banerjee joined the Department of Chemistry at IIT Ropar as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016 and, in recognition of his outstanding research achievements and academic contributions, was elevated to the position of Professor in 2024. His research interests encompass electroorganic synthesis, organocatalysis, asymmetric synthesis, the development of new synthetic methodologies, targeted drug delivery, and medicinal chemistry. Through his work, he has made significant contributions to advancing sustainable synthetic strategies and the application of chemistry to address challenges in healthcare and drug discovery.
